Barry has written to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Esther McVey to tell her the roll-out of Universal Credit must be stopped immediately because it simply isn’t working and cannot continue in its current form pushing more families and more children into poverty.

The National Audit Office have stated that the programme “was driven by an ambitious timescale” and suffered from “weak management, ineffective control and poor governance.
